The project aims to support sustainable agriculture in Bosnia and Herzegovina by developing an affordable, bio-based alternative to imported fungicides while reducing agro-industrial waste. By transforming black cumin processing residues into a natural antifungal extract, the initiative introduces a circular solution that converts underutilized biomass into a valuable input for organic and integrated crop production.
Implemented by the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Banja Luka in partnership with “ELAN STIL ŽIVOTA“ Jovana Cvijanović s.p., the project combines scientific research with practical application. Building on initial laboratory results, the initiative will optimize the extraction process, validate its effectiveness in greenhouse conditions, and assess its environmental impact. At the same time, it will engage farmers, SMEs, and agricultural stakeholders through trainings and workshops, promoting knowledge transfer and adoption of sustainable practices.
By linking research, industry, and end-users, the project strengthens local capacity for eco-friendly crop protection and opens new value chains for agricultural residues. It contributes to reduced dependence on imports, improved environmental performance, and inclusive rural development, with particular attention to engaging women and young professionals in sustainable agriculture.
