The project assesses the feasibility of converting fruit-processing waste—such as mango residues—into textile fibres in Cambodia, creating new value from underutilized organic by-products. Implemented by Brainchain in partnership with Kokopon, it combines field mapping of waste streams with laboratory fibre development and on-site testing of small-scale extraction processes.
Through pilot trials with local cooperatives and processing centres, the project evaluates technical performance, market potential, and economic viability. By linking research with rural production systems, it aims to create new income opportunities for smallholder farmers—particularly women—and lay the foundation for a scalable circular materials model in the textile sector.
