Kokoza, in partnership with the University "Džemal Bijedić" in Mostar and the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Technology at the University of Mostar, is launching a transformative education-to-action initiative in Bosnia and Herzegovina to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world environmental challenges. While the city of Mostar faces growing pressures from biowaste management, opportunities for applied, solutions-oriented learning remain limited. This project addresses this gap by embedding a Czech-developed Academy of Sustainable Project Management methodology into local universities, creating a hands-on programme where students move directly from theory to practice.
By combining Czech expertise with local academic institutions, the project delivers a robust practice-based curriculum in project design, budgeting, and implementation. Student teams receive guaranteed small grants to execute real circular economy pilots in cooperation with the city and local stakeholders—turning classrooms into engines for measurable waste reduction. Through this integrated approach, the initiative not only tackles pressing environmental issues but also actively counters youth disengagement by empowering young people with tangible green skills and a direct stake in their community’s sustainable future. As the model is embedded within university structures, its methodology is designed for long-term institutional sustainability and scalability across Bosnia and Herzegovina, fostering a new generation of practitioners equipped to build greener, more resilient communities.
