Helping Women Entrepreneurs in Moldova Grow Beyond Local Markets

Running a business in Moldova is not easy,  and for many women, it comes with additional challenges. Access to finance can be limited, time is often stretched between work and family responsibilities, and expanding beyond the domestic market can feel out of reach.

The PANDORA accelerator, supported through the Czech-UNDP partnership, aims to help address some of these barriers. The project works with 45 women entrepreneurs across Moldova, helping them strengthen their businesses, develop digital skills and explore opportunities in EU markets.

“Many women entrepreneurs are balancing business responsibilities with family life, often with very limited time. Through the PANDORA project, we want participants to feel supported, stay motivated and know they are not facing these challenges alone,” says Ingrid Šůrová, CEO of Business and Professional Women, one of the project partners.

From digital tools to export readiness

A key part of the project focuses on practical digital skills, including the use of AI tools in everyday business activities.

“We want participants to use digital and AI tools in practical ways that can support their businesses immediately. For those looking beyond the local market, the project also helps make EU export requirements easier to understand and navigate,” says Ingrid Šůrová.

Participants learn how digital tools can support communication with customers, strengthen their online presence and improve business planning and market research. The accelerator also helps entrepreneurs better understand the steps involved in entering EU markets, including standards, certification and logistics.

Building long-term support

The project is implemented together with Business and Professional Women Moldova, combining local expertise with experience from similar initiatives in the Czech Republic.

Alongside training sessions, participants receive mentorship and tailored guidance to help apply new skills directly to their businesses. The project also includes a Training of Trainers component, helping local experts continue the courses beyond the initial project.

Looking beyond the local market

By combining business development, digital skills and export support, the PANDORA accelerator is helping women entrepreneurs in Moldova build stronger and more competitive businesses.

For many participants, PANDORA is also creating something less tangible, but equally important: greater confidence to grow beyond their local market.
