Energy Efficient Technology for Rural Development

The project’s objective is to develop a model approach for renewable energy supply and climate-smart agriculture in rural Georgia, specifically the 50 agricultural cooperatives in regions of Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Samegrelo Zemo Svaneti, Adjara and Guria.

The use of FES-fuel efficient stoves, biomass fueled boiler and the application of the model of the Cooperative Revolving Fund developed by CARE international. The model will be tested, improved and later disseminated through the Cooperative Fund, which is a union of smallholder farmers’ agricultural cooperatives demonstrating high social responsibility, democratic decision-making and control mechanisms. Agricultural cooperatives are becoming common practice in Georgia, and a useful tool to fight rural poverty via market driven agricultural enterprises.

The collaborative implementation by CARE Czech Republic, CARE Georgia, Agriculture Cooperative Development Fund, Rural Communities Development Agency and by Czech company Holistic Solutions delivering the technical expertise will deliver the project by May 2020.
