Growing Green: Soil Education and Green Laboratories for Georgia

Kona, in collaboration with Czech partner Kokoza, is leading an innovative education initiative in Georgia to promote environmental awareness through a focus on soil health and sustainable practices. Despite increasing environmental challenges, soil degradation remains an under-addressed issue. This project introduces practical ecological education in schools by establishing Green Laboratories—interactive learning spaces equipped with composters and raised-bed gardens. These labs will serve as living classrooms where pupils, teachers, and university students can engage in hands-on activities to understand the importance of healthy soils for food security, biodiversity, and climate resilience.

By combining Czech expertise with local knowledge, the project delivers a robust training program for educators and develops a Georgian-language toolbox to support long-term impact. Through capacity-building workshops, composting demonstrations, and community involvement, the initiative not only improves environmental education but also empowers local entrepreneurs and educators with sustainable skills. As the project scales, its open-access methodology will enable replication across the country, supporting a broader movement for greener, healthier communities—starting from the ground up.
