Innovative Conservation Project for Enhanced Protected Area Management in Moldova
Moldova (MD) is one of the most vulnerable countries in Europe in terms of the effects of climate change. MD´s environmental issues are partly dealt with mostly in protected areas, even though they cover only 6 % of the country’s territory.
Unfortunately, the protected areas are not effectively managed, due to the lack of the State financial and human resources. This project of Arnika focuses mainly on the improvement of management of 3 selected protected areas in Moldova by providing innovative approaches, modern equipment and capacity building of professionals and volunteer rangers. It also aims at promoting the creation of the Natura 2000 network as a prerequisite for Moldova´s EU accession. Czech experience and expertise in those domains will be shared with the Moldovan counterparts.
The project will thus also increase the participation of the general and professional public in nature protection, including in the future establishment of the Natura 2000 network – an obligation MD has as a candidate country for the EU membership.
