Developing SOP for crisis and risk management response in wood biomass sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Because of COVID-19 pandemic, wood biomass value chain in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been significantly affected and normal functioning and maintenance of the production processes have been impeded. Due to the market disruptions and panic stockpiling of the local population, it is expected that demand for these products will grow significantly as people will want to secure enough quantities of wood for the winter season. To avoid an uncontrolled increase of prices and to maintain supply chain stability, tailored made recovery actions are needed both for stimulation of the production of biomass-based energy carriers, maintenance of the production of other wood assortments in forestry sectors and support to the demand, both at local and international markets.

The project aims to support the development of instructions for crisis and risk management response in wood biomass sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina and to develop a systematic tool for biomass energy utilization and preparation for new investment aid. The main goal of the biomass project, which is implemented in close cooperation with Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry and other actors, is to increase the wood biomass demand, improve wood biomass supply chain and technical, legislative and awareness barriers and enhancing research on these issues throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
