Transfer of the new know-how and modern beekeeping methods for sustainable, ecological and economical beekeeping

In recent years there were some negative economic impacts of the agriculture sector in Moldova. The Varroa destructor mite is the main source of bee colony mortality in the world. Currently, in order to fight Varroa beekeepers mainly utilize chemicals. Unfortunately, their effectiveness is not sufficient enough and their application inside of the hive is damaging the colony. Moreover, the mite has grown resistant to many of the chemicals, significantly decreasing their effect.

Apis Innovation provides a solution to that. Together with their local partner The National Association of Beekeepers of the Republic of Moldova, they introduce thermotherapy in Thermosolar Hive to Moldova.

Thermosolar Hive is a unique beehive that can kill Varroa destructor mites only with the power of sunlight; therefore, it is completely environmentally friendly, yet its success rate is higher than that of the commonly used chemical drugs. Thermosolar Hive has a fast return on investment. It not only dramatically reduces colony mortality, but also helps to produce more honey. Honey production is 20 to 50% higher than in classical hives on average, depending on season.

Experience with Thermosolar Hives from the Czech Republic can fundamentally help the beekeeping sector in Moldova. The project will provide know-how and devices for the new way of sustainable, ecological and also profitable beekeeping.
