Smart Technology Transfer for Ethiopia

In 2012, Ethiopia adopted a new Science, Technology and Innovation policy which identified technology transfer as one of the critical policy areas. As a follow up, Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs) were established at universities across the country. However, effective linkages between academic institutions and industry, which contribute to increased industrial productivity have not been established and there is a lack of awareness about benefits of mutual collaboration.

Czech company UNICO.AI together with their local partner Hawassa University addresses this challenge through improved data management and effective presentation of research results towards local businesses and public sector.

UNICO’s platform EXPERTS.AI gathers information about university assets such as experts, publications, research projects, technologies or patents will be used to increase the public profile of two Ethiopian leading universities – Jimma University and Hawassa University. Through EXPERTS.AI widgets all university assets will be presented at the university websites and towards private sector in a structured and appealing way.  AI-algorithms help to create profiles of academic experts and their results, as well as enable personalised searches and smart recommendations.
