Intelligent control system of public lighting in Ungheni

The Municipality of Ungheni recently invested in its public lighting system by replacing smaller parts of its luminaires by LED technology. Nevertheless, the control system for public lighting remains very basic. The current technology allows practically only turning the lights on and off.

In Ungheni, wave switching is still used to switch on individual switchboards. However, this method often encounters a problem with the condition of the cable network which is often obsolete and in a very poor condition. Replacing existing technologies with LED technology alone can save up to 50% in electricity. Additional deployment of an intelligent control system, including integral components (SW / HW), can then help reduce consumption by up to 75%.

For this Challenge Fund project, the Municipality of Ungheni partnered with a Czech innovator DATmoLUX a.s. who will provide their latest technology for public lighting by implementing an advanced RadioControl System. As a result, DATmoLUX a.s. is going to increase the road safety for town’s 35,000 residents. Additionally by relying on radio control system as opposed to old cable network, the new system will be more reliable and cost effective and easier to maintain.
