As Ethiopia’s shallow water sources are becoming scarce and polluted, alternative water supplies sources need to be identified. Through the 2021 Challenge Fund, LIAZ Exploration uses its airborne exploration tools to locate sustainable deeper groundwater sources in one of the most drought-affected area, the Somali Region. In this article, Ms Zuzana Beranová shares her own experience from Ethiopia and explains what LIAZ seeks to achieve with their local partners.

Česká společnost LIAZ Explorations uspěla se svým projektem v letošním kole Challenge fondu chce využít drony své vlastní výroby k lokalizaci hlubinných vodních kapes v somálském regionu, který patří mezi nejsušší místa v Etiopii. O plánech LIAZ i životě v somálském regionu jsme si povídali s paní Zuzanou Beranovou, která dříve působila v diplomatických službách ČR v Africe a nyní je projektovou manažerkou LIAZ.

In the beginning only large cities were interested in purchasing various sensors and systems for city management. Everything changed with the spread of mobile internet connection and coverage, which allowed many more companies to offer products based on wireless connection. Today, we can truly say that smart cities are a phenomenon across the globe and both large and smaller municipalities participate.

Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and the Czech-UNDP expertise

International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction began in 1989, when the UN General Assembly called for a day to promote a global culture of risk-awareness and disaster reduction (DRR). It has been held on 13 October since. This day celebrates how people and communities around the world work to reduce their exposure to disasters. It also seeks to raise awareness about the importance of reining in the risks that they face. The Czech Republic has a long-standing tradition in developing and implementing DRR strategies.
